Motor racing classes

Throughout the entire season many different classes race at Circuit Park Zandvoort. Classes with modern cars like the BenQ Siemens BMW 130i Cup, the Shell Helix Seat Cupra Cup, the Dunlop SportMaxx Clio Cup, the Formula Renault, the Uitert Formula Ford, but also vintage racing cars like those in MG competitions, the Youngtimers and the HARC Monopostos.

Added to this, Circuit Park Zandvoort is regularly visited by overseas racing organisations, or special events are organised which focus on brands from a particular country. Examples here are the ADAC and Porsche Club Schwaben which organises a large annual event on the Zandvoort track with many German race series. Racing history gets a lot of attention during the vintage races of the HARC amongst others. Italia a Zandvoort is also very well known. During this annual event Circuit Park Zandvoort is packed with famous makes of Italian cars like Ferrari, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Lancia.

The extension of the track in the winter of 1998-1999, made the circuit more attractive to international race series. This led to the CPZ securing the DTM (the prestigious German touring car class) and the A1 Grand Prix, as result of which Zandvoort has a third international racing event within its borders.

BenQ Siemens BMW 130i Cup

This season the BMW 130i Cup is the only new racing class in the national ‘racing premier division’. This class is an initiative of Circuit Park Zandvoort. It is hardly surprising that the Cup car is based on the BMW 130i which can be seen in a BMW dealer’s showroom.
To limit costs, cars race with a standard power source of 265 hp. Of course, when it comes to the chassis, safety features etc. the vehicle has been transformed into a racing car. With the BMW 130i Cup, Pirelli is re-entering national motor racing.
Frank Kerseboom, former racing driver and also one of the three people behind the Rensport School in Zandvoort, is the Cup Manager. He can be reached for more information via e-mail info@bmw130icup.nl See also: www.bmw130icup.nl

Dunlop SportMaxx Clio Cup

Racing fans, racing drivers and the cup organisers are in complete agreement, the Dunlop SportMaxx Clio Cup is a sure-fire hit. It will surprise no one that this successful brand cup will again be part of the 2006 programme!
Just like this year, the ‘A’ events at Circuit Park Zandvoort, which include classes like the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, the Formula Renault, the Seat Cupra Cup and the Formula Ford, also take up the lion’s share of the Dunlop SportMaxx Clio Cup racing calendar. Next season a number of races will also be held in other countries, like this year at Zolder, Belgium and Snetterton, England.
Organisation and regulations of the Dunlop SportMaxx Clio Cup remain unchanged. As a result, this perennially successful concept, which is supported by Remus Uitlaten and Autoweek along with its namesake Dunlop SportMaxx, next year begins its sixth (!) successive racing season with the same Renault Clio model. The cup organisers are expecting at least 25 participating cars, as result of which fans can once again look forward to full starting fields and spectacular races.

Shell Helix SEAT Cupra Cup

The Shell Helix SEAT Cupra Cup is entering its third season. After the first year in 2004, we can look back on an impeccable 2005 season, apart from of course Arend Benthem’s serious crash at Spa-Francorchamps.
In technical and regulatory terms, the Shell Helix SEAT Cupra Cup is at its peak, with the logical consequence that in the previous winter months nothing to do with the organisation of the cup has altered. The only change: Cup Manager Geert Vermeer left when he was appointed Sports Director of Circuit Park Zandvoort.
The Shell Helix SEAT Cupra Cup has proved itself to be a breeding ground for young talent. One example: Nicky Catsburg, the biggest surprise in the 2005 cup, is climbing the motor racing ladder. Ronald Morien and Ferry Duivenvoorde are the reigning champions and are also competing in the class this season.

Uitert Formule Ford

The Uitert Formula Ford is looking forward to a good season. The class is being reinforced by some young talent from kart racing and from several national touring car classes.

ELF BRL

The ELF BRL can look back on a highly successful 2005 season. The ELF BRL-V6 field was particularly big and competitive, and the races were spectacular. The same applied to the ELF BRL Light, a class which made such a name for itself last season, that we can expect more participants this year.
In technical and regulatory terms, little has changed in the ELF BRL V6. The same cannot be said for the ELF BRL Light class. After changing to Ford engines last year, the ‘Lights’ will have new bodywork based on the ‘fat’ Ford Focus in the WTCC.
ELF BRL-V6 champion Jeroen Bleekemolen is doing something else this year. The same goes for Francesco Pastorelli, the Dutch champion in the ELF BRL Light class. Marijn van Kalmthout, who won the Benelux title, remains active in the ‘Lights’.

Dutch Supercar Challenge

Last year the starting field for the Dutch Supercar Challenge was huge and varied. This season the class looks like it’s only going to grow even more.
The format of this class remains largely the same. That means races of about one hour and three classes: GT, Supersport and Sport. The reigning champions are Pieter Dubois and René Wijnen (GT), Lex van der Meijden (Supersport) and Richard van den Berg (Sport).
